Your nano tip extensions are designed to move naturally, remain discreet, and support the health of your natural hair. Proper at-home care is essential for keeping your extensions beautiful, preventing unnecessary shedding or tangling, and maintaining the integrity of your natural hair.
Brush your extensions 2–3 times per day using an extension-safe brush.
Always support your hair near the root with one hand while brushing with the other. Begin at the ends and gently work your way upward.
Be especially thorough around the nape, behind the ears, and between extension rows, as these areas are most prone to tangling.
Never aggressively pull or brush through a knot. Work through tangles gently to avoid unnecessary tension on your natural hair or nano tips.
For the best longevity, wash your hair approximately 2–3 times per week rather than daily.
Before showering, thoroughly brush your hair and remove any tangles.
Shampoo in a downward motion, gently cleansing your scalp and between the nano tips with your fingertips. Avoid aggressively scrubbing, twisting, or piling your hair on top of your head.
Conditioner should be applied from the mid-lengths through the ends only. Keep conditioner, masks, oils, and other heavy or slippery products away from the nano tip attachment points.
Rinse thoroughly.
The products you use matter just as much as how you care for your extensions.
Studio Mane recommends SEVEN Haircare for extension maintenance. I cannot guarantee the performance or compatibility of other product lines with your extensions.
Your routine should include:
For clients using my recommended routine, SEVEN Hydrate Shampoo + Conditioner, leave-in care, bond mask, heat protection, and Diamond Serum are ideal for keeping both your natural hair and extensions hydrated and manageable.
After washing, gently squeeze excess water from your hair with a towel. Do not rub, twist, or aggressively towel-dry your extensions.
Apply your leave-in and heat protection through the mid-lengths and ends, then gently detangle.
Your nano tip attachment points should be completely dried after every wash. Do not leave the roots or beads damp for extended periods.
Never go to bed with wet or damp extensions.
Nano tips give you plenty of styling freedom, but heat protection is essential.
Always apply a heat protectant before using hot tools.
Keep hot tools below approximately 350°F whenever possible, and never place a flat iron, curling iron, or other direct heat source onto the nano tip beads or attachment points.
Avoid excessive pulling or tension when styling.
You can still enjoy ponytails, messy buns, claw clips, braids, and other everyday styles — just make sure your extensions are not being pulled tightly at the root.
Always brush your extensions before bed.
Secure your hair in a loose braid or low ponytail to prevent tangling while you sleep.
A silk or satin pillowcase or bonnet is highly recommended to reduce friction.
Never sleep with wet hair, Unless it is protected in a braid.
Yes, you can absolutely work out with nano tips.
Secure your hair in a loose braid or ponytail and avoid styles that create excessive tension at the attachment points.
After heavy sweating, make sure your scalp and attachment areas are allowed to dry completely. Do not leave your roots damp for long periods.
Before swimming, brush your extensions, soak them in distilled water and a leave in hair mask and secure them in a bun or a braid.
Avoid leaving extensions loose in the water where they can become tangled.
After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water and follow your normal extension-care routine.
Be especially mindful around chlorine and salt water, as repeated exposure can dry out both your natural hair and extension hair.
Never leave your extensions wet after swimming, and never sleep on untreated wet extensions.
Avoid applying oils, conditioner, masks, serums, or other slippery/heavy products directly onto your attachment points.
Product buildup around the beads can contribute to slipping and make proper scalp cleansing more difficult, as well as an uncomfortable scalp.
Keep moisturizing products where they belong — primarily through your mid-lengths and ends.
Avoid excessive tension, tight high ponytails, aggressive brushing, over-washing, sleeping with wet hair, heavy product buildup around the beads, and picking or pulling at your nano tips.
Do not attempt to tighten, reposition, or remove nano tips yourself.

Nano tips require professional maintenance as your natural hair grows.
Most clients will need a move-up approximately every 10-12 weeks, depending on natural hair growth, density, shedding, and at-home care.
Your individual maintenance schedule will be recommended based on your hair.
Waiting too long between appointments can allow excessive grow-out, tangling, matting, or unnecessary tension on your natural hair.
We naturally shed hair every day. When you wear individual extensions, some of those naturally shed hairs remain held within the extension attachment until your maintenance appointment.
Seeing shed hair during your move-up or removal is normal and does not automatically mean your extensions have damaged your natural hair.
Consistent maintenance and proper at-home care are what allow us to keep your natural hair healthy throughout your extension journey. It is normal to lose between 5-15 nano tips as your natural hair sheds. Do not panic. Save them for your move up appointment.
A little awareness of your extensions or mild tenderness immediately following a fresh installation can be normal while your scalp adjusts.
Please contact me if you experience:
Sharp or persistent pain, significant pulling or tension, severe itching or irritation, unusual redness, multiple extensions slipping unexpectedly, matting near the attachment points, or anything that simply doesn't feel right.
Extensions should never be something you have to “suffer through.”
Your extension appointment is only one part of maintaining beautiful hair.
Consistent professional maintenance, quality products, gentle daily care, and protecting your natural hair between appointments are what make the difference.
Following your recommended aftercare will help you get the most from your extension hair while keeping hair health at the center of your extension experience.
